TOWNSHIP NEWS FLASH FOR August 31,2016

SLOW DOWN FOR SCHOOL BUSES & PEDESTRIANS - School begins August 24th, motorists are reminded to use additional caution on roadway with school buses & other school transportation vehicles soon taking to the road. PA law requires that motorists stop at least 10 feet away from school buses when their red lights are flashing & their stop arm is extended. Motorists following or traveling alongside a school bus must also stop until the red lights have stopped flashing & the stop arm is withdrawn. Do not proceed until all the children have reached a place of safety. Penalties for failure to obey school bus safety laws can result in a $250 fine, five points on a driving record & a 60-day license suspension.

Oley Township, settled in 1712, is located in beautiful Berks County, Pennsylvania. Oley was originally settled in 1700 and was incorporated as a Township while a part of Philadelphia County.

With lots of open space and beautiful scenery, our population of only 3,620 (2010 Census) andand consists of 24.2 square miles.

Oley Township is home to the Oley Valley Community Fair held in mid-September at the Oley Fairgrounds. In addition to games, food and fun, the fair also holds competitions for a wide variety of farm and home products.
