HISTORICAL ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW BOARD

Oley Township’s Historic District Ordinance requires the submission of a Historical Architectural Review Board (HARB) application if you own a home built prior to 1940 and you plan for changes or alterations to any exterior features of your home or outbuildings.  This also is required for new additions and newly constructed buildings and/or homes.  You are not required to submit an application if you replace “like-in-kind” for repairs and replacement of features that replicate the exact detail, profile, and configuration of the original or existing features with the same type of materials.  An application can be found on this site or contact the Township office for the application, the filing fee for this application is $25 and the application would need to be submitted to the Township office at least ten (10) days prior to the HARB meeting date.  The HARB meetings are generally held the fourth Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Oley Township Municipal Building.  If you are unsure of your project’s scope and would like to discuss it with the HARB prior to submitting an application, we encourage you to attend a meeting for further direction and recommendations.  The HARB members can only make recommendations to the Board of Supervisors on the HARB applications.  The actual approval or Certificate of Appropriateness is issued by the Board of Supervisors at their monthly meeting which are generally held the second Monday of each month.
